Spiderman

This was my 3rd year making a birthday cake for my daughter's best buddy, Elijah. Last year he was into Cars and this year for his 4th birthday, he's all about Spiderman. I got the idea for this cake from a cake photo I saw on flickr.



Cinnamon chocolate fudge cake with chocolate and vanilla buttercreams. Covered/decorated with Satin Ice fondant (red), marshmallow fondant and royal icing.
It was a 3-layer cake that stood about 4.5 inches tall and was 10 inches from top of head to chin. Pretty easy cake to make and one of the fastest I'd made in a while.

Isn't it weird when the cake takes less time - you stare at it and wonder if you missed something :-) Fun cake - and fun to see how the kids taste change over the years.

I have had to make a couple of Spiderman cakes in the past and they are hard to come with ideas for! I really like how your cake turned out though!

You are amazing! I just found your blog, and I absolutely LOVE it!!!
I have a question, though. What do you use to display your cakes on? I know that when I bake cakes (not that often, sadly), I always end up with foil covered cardboard, which leaves a lot to be desired.
Also, how do you store the leftover cake?

I purchase cake drums at my local cake supply store. And I've also used cardboard cake circles that I covered with decorative foil.

If there isn't a cake supply store in your area, Walmart, JoAnn's and Michaels all carry similar products by Wilton.

Leftover cake - if the filling is non-perishable, I simply leave my cakes on the counter and cover the cut area with plastic wrap, so the cake doesn't dry out.
