BBQ Cookies

We had a small get-together at our house this weekend, mostly to hang out and cool off with friends and their kids by the pool.  It's HOT here in Arizona, so pool time is a must!  So, we threw some burgers and dogs on the bbq and made a day of it.

For fun, I made these sugar cookies with a half batch of dough I had in the freezer and leftover marshmallow fondant.  I borrowed the idea from Meaghan at The Decorated Cookie and used Americolor Food Writer pens for the 'art'.  I also let the kiddos decorate cookies too, and as usual, they had a blast making their own art!

This is such a fun, easy way to jazz up cookies and make them festive for any occasion, even a little 'ol bbq. 

Cookie Kick

I've been on a bit of a cookie kick lately. I really enjoy making them for my daughter and her friends to decorate but that usually involves a big royal icing mess. SO, I decided to do things a little differently this time around.

And, what is better than a blank canvas?

Naturally, for Valentines, I made heart cookies, but I also made a bunch of white square cookies for the kiddos to decorate with Americolor Food Writer pens. So fun and cute, and a great non-messy kid activity if you're looking for one.

In all honesty, if I had to choose, I would always choose to eat cookies over cake. Small portions, no utensils required, simple and sometimes absolutely gorgeous.

There are a lot of great sites and blogs on the web displaying the cookies of some VERY talented cookie decorators. And they with much steadier and patient hands than my own. But every now and again, I'm inspired to give it a go myself. I made the cutest turkey cookies in November (which I naturally didn't get any pictures of) and these I made yesterday for expectant friends.

I probably got a little crazy with the color selection, but you know me, I like color. Electric pink and green may have been a bit much; and I probably should have thought to ask about nursery colors, but alas.

But overall, my friends were happy, I was happy and I know they tasted good.
